From the moment that I could hold a book, I fell in love with learning. I would run home everyday to share all that I had learned with anyone who would listen! My favorite way to learn was through music.
It was a sunny day in 1995 when I heard the most amazing piece of art; Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" . Soon after, I was formally introduced to the bassoon & became a member of the band program at my school.
Though learning the bassoon without the guide of a private teacher was a bit challenging at times, I was extremely fortunate to learn from my peers & observe various other players. Vastly excelling academically, learning through the arts became my safe haven. While growing as an artist & life-long learner, I was also connecting & learning more with my youngest brother who had recently been diagnosed with Autism.
I was a member of my high school concert band (bassoon), marching band (drum line), indoor marching drum line, percussion ensemble, & held leadership positions. I also had the honor of touring Europe with Spirit of America National Honor Band. At the age of 18, I earned placement into the South Carolina Collegiate Band on the bassoon.
I went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in Music Performance (Bassoon). During that time, I was involved in several ensembles & Naxos recordings with the MTSU Wind Ensemble. Also becoming a mentor for Big Brother Big Sister of Rutherford County & member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Inc.
After many years of being a Montessori educator & music teacher, I decided to finalize my dream school. Sharing my love of learning & the arts through the Montessori philosophy with everyone is a dream come true!
Welcome to The Musical Corner. I can't wait to explore the arts with you & your family.
